On June 21st, we celebrated National Aboriginal Day by honoring the unique accomplishments of Indigenous peoples. June 24th marked Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, a celebration of the cultural pride and rich heritage of Canada’s Francophone community. Tomorrow, June 27th is Canadian Multiculturalism Day, an opportunity to celebrate our diversity and commitment to democracy, equality, and mutual respect. July 1st is Canada Day, and the entire country will celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday!
Canada is very welcome to all races, nationalities and cultures; it is one of the most diverse countries in the world. Canada is also the first country to adopt multiculturalism as an official policy. We honour and encourage a cultural mosaic, and are proud to love and accept everyone because of their differences. Justin Trudeau’s Cabinet is an example of this concept; it is the most diverse Cabinet in Canadian History. According to Trudeau, it is “A cabinet that looks like Canada.”
