Father’s Day and Men’s Mental Health
Posted on: Tuesday, June 15th, 2021
Father’s day is approaching this weekend on June 20th. As it arrives it is a great time to reflect on the significant men and father figures in our lives. The role that fathers have in an individual’s life can be very significant and embodied by many individuals, not just a biological father. Just like anyone else, father figures can struggle with their mental health. Unfortunately, men’s mental health is not often talked about. Despite the conversation around men’s mental health, about 10% of male Canadians experience significant mental health struggles within their life.
There are several stigmas that tend to arise when the conversation of men’s mental health is brought up. There are many things that can be done to support any men or father figures in your life that struggle with mental health. Being informed about the signs of mental health in men and creating conversations with those you are close with can be an incredible place to start.
If you or a male close to you is struggling with their mental health, Journey counselling is here to offer support.
