At the Heart of it All

It is important to take care of your heart, after all cardiovascular disease is the world’s leading cause of death. There are various causes and risk factors that may lead to heart disease and stroke, including use of tobacco, unhealthy diet, and physical inactivity. But did you know our own negative emotions can also affect our hearts?
Stress, anxiety, and depression can contribute to abnormal heart rhythms and oxygen deprivation. Certain conditions such as coronary artery disease may even be exacerbated by emotional distress. So, although it is important to take care of our bodies, to exercise, to eat healthy, and to get a good night’s sleep, it is just as important to care for our minds!
Do what makes you happy. Whether it’s spending quality time with loved ones, going on a hiking adventure, reading a book, learning something new, or even singing in the shower, your heart will appreciate it.
In celebration of World Heart Day, our team at Journey Counselling went axe throwing!
How will you get your heart racing today?
