If you are researching about your need to talk to someone, then the likely answer is ‘yes, now is the time’. Maybe you have tried waiting and the stress or challenge is not going away. Having an initial free 15-minute consultation is a great way to determine what is happening in your life, where you are on your journey and which therapist would be a good fit to work with you.
Currently Journey Counselling does directly bill Blue Cross, Medavie, Telus Health (Canada Life, Desjardins, Greenshield) and AESBP. For all others, please familiarize yourself with your policy to determine how much you get for counselling. You will leave each session with a receipt that you are able to submit for reimbursement. Note some policies only cover a portion of your counselling fee.
Each of us has influence within the relationships that we are in. When one person changes invariably they affect the relationships that they are in, often in a positive way. Therefore it is recommended that the willing party attend counselling and bring some new perspectives and changed behavior to the relationship to help move it along.
Yes, if both parents are able to, it helps to gain both their perspectives on the child’s strengths and challenges prior to counselling beginning. In addition, when obtaining an assessment, information from both parents is used to develop a wholesome understanding of the child. If one parent is not able to attend, both counselling and assessments can still proceed with the input of the available parent.
Every client has very unique concerns, circumstances, backgrounds and beliefs. These unique qualities determine the client’s needs, expectations and eventually the outcomes, which will affect the pace of their progress. Your therapist will work with you to develop goals for therapy and together monitor change in light of those goals.
