Did you know that physical health can be one of the best ways to improve mental wellbeing? Exercise is a great way to combat depression, anxiety, stress, ADHD, and schizophrenia.
What are Endorphins?
Endorphins are “feel good” chemicals, acting as neurotransmitters that send signals to the nervous systems to help block pain and reduce stress.
Ways to Release Endorphins?
- Body movements
- Laughing
- Sex
- Eating dark chocolate
- Acupuncture
- Massage
Why It Matters
Teenagers and adults often struggle with their self-esteem and sleep quality. Engaging in physical activity 3-5 days a week can be a healthy coping strategy including:
- Walking
- Cycling
- Dancing
- Swimming
- Yoga
Benefits of Exercise
- Fosters a sense of accomplishment
- Boosts confidence and self-esteem
- Shifts mood
- Reduces stress and anxiety
But what good is exercise if it becomes rigorous and overwhelming? After all, many forget that it should be a way to get your body moving, you do not have to follow strict routines.
Opportunities to Socialize
Team-based activities create a sense of belonging by fostering a socializing atmosphere.
For Example:
- Walking outside and connecting with others (e.g., neighbours or new people)
- Playing a sport
- Joining a team or club
- Going to the gym with a friend
At the end of the day, make sure to have fun, you do not have to overcomplicate it to see results. Exercising is about consistency not perfection.
