Did you know that 1/3 of women worldwide have and will experience either physical or sexual assault from an intimate partner or a non-intimate partner in their lifetime? Violence against women and girls negatively affects their well-being and prevent women from fully participating in society.
There are a few types of violence against women:
How do we end violence against women?
- Educate children and the youth about healthy relationships
- Promote bystander training programs on what to do when you see any type of violence against women
- Support groups for those who have been through violence against women but also just to empower women and make sure they know their rights
Don’t be afraid to suggest to those women who have gone through abuse to go seek help. Know that the goal of counselling is to help women understand what they can do to end the cycle of violence and keep themselves, and their children (if any) safe – whether they choose to stay in the relationship or whether they choose to end it. Individual counselling and therapy services are tailored to meet the specific needs of each woman, to build esteem and develop confidence and power.
What is sexual consent? Let the voices of women be heard and let it be known what ‘NO’ really means NO!
